Slow Fiber is strengthening its commitment to educating future generations through a new course, Innovation in Fashion Materials, at Sapienza University of Rome. Structured around the network’s five core principles—good, healthy, clean, fair, and durable—the course is dedicated to exploring the materials used throughout the textile sector.
The initiative is being developed within a highly international academic environment. This year, Sapienza once again ranked as the world’s leading university for Classics and Ancient History for the sixth consecutive year and as Italy’s top university, with 26 disciplines featured in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
For Slow Fiber, entering the university sphere represents a tangible opportunity to help shape new skills and perspectives by bringing to higher education institutions a vision of textiles that connects materials, sustainability, supply chains, and innovation.
“This initiative marks an important step in the dissemination of a more informed and responsible textile culture,” said Dario Casalini, President of Slow Fiber and lecturer of the course. “Understanding the processes that underpin supply chains, materials, and their environmental, social, and economic impacts is becoming increasingly essential—especially for younger generations.”
The course forms part of a broader educational journey that has seen Slow Fiber actively involved in recent months in lectures, workshops, and academic programmes at fashion design institutes, fashion schools, and universities. This ongoing dialogue with students from diverse educational backgrounds reflects the growing interest in sustainability and responsibility within the textile sector.
The goal is to strengthen engagement with younger generations, fostering greater awareness of production and consumption models and contributing to the development of a more sustainable future for the textile industry—both in fashion and in interior furnishings.
